Smiles for Liberia ~ World Oral Health Day

Clay-Ashland, Montserrado, Liberia

Smiles for Liberia, a NGO, owned and operated by Liberian dental health professionals, is Liberia's only dental outreach program.  Smiles is working in 12 of the 15 counties in Liberia.  Smiles was a key partner in establishing the AAS Dental Therapy degree program at the G.W. Harley Hospital through the United Methodist University.

Smiles for Liberia is once more proud to identify with the World Dental Federation in arousing awareness, prevention and treatment of dental problems on WOHD, March 20, 2018, in historic Clay-Ashland.  Students from schools of neighboring cities converged in Clay-Ashland for a program celebrating the day.  They were screened, given disclosing tablets to stain where plaque and other debris were lodged in their mouths. and then asked to brush all the stains away. Others were given oral prophylaxis,(professional cleaning of the surfaces of the teeth) and topical Fluoride.  Yet others were relieved of grossly decayed and retained baby teeth.  All participants received dental care packages and the schools got certificates of participation.
