CONEX PETROLEUM GROUP TO CONSTRUCT A 10,000 BARRELS PER DAY MODULAR OIL REFINERY IN MONROVIA

On April 16, 2019, Conex Petroleum Group with help from the Vice President of Liberia, Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor, the Honorable Speaker Bhofal Chambers, International and local partners and host of well wishers joined in the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Conex Refinery.

You may recall that Conex constructed and commissioned a 55,000 metric ton Petroleum Storage Terminal in 2016. Conex is pleased to break ground for the commencement of Phase II, the modular oil refinery.

According to the CEO/Chairman of Conex, Cherif M. Abdallah, this project will be an added value to the country and ensure Liberia’s strategic reserve and savings on the flight of foreign exchange from our country. Phase II will also create additional revenue through royalties to LPRC, taxes to the government and community development projects. It will also ensure petroleum product sufficiency and job creation.

Chairman Abdallah stated that the future of our nation depends on a vibrant Liberian owned private sector. He therefore, called on other well-meaning Liberians to join in building small, medium and large scale businesses. He concluded by stating that political independence without economic independence is no independence at all. Therefore, Conex has decided to work collaboratively with government to provide economic independence to Liberians.

For his part, the COO/Senior Vice President, T. Nelson Williams, II, talked about Conex’s commitment to building the capacity of Liberian workers to serve in leadership and highly technical positions while undertaking community developmental projects as part of the company’s CSR program.

The General Manager of Conex Petroleum Services, Caroline Richards Klark, thanked the President of Liberia, His Excellence George Manneh Weah for his support to private businesses. She recognized local partners from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, National Port Authority, National Investment Commission, Liberia Maritime Authority and the Environmental Protection Agency. Mrs. Klark also thanked our international partners from the African Finance Corporation, V-Fuels, Lutech Engineering, GEMCORP, Montserrado Investments and Saga Global Consultants.
