NOCAL SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS ARRIVE IN LONDON FOR STUDIES
(MONROVIA, LIBERIA – September 27, 2012): Six students under the sponsorship of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) left the country recently to begin graduate studies at Dundee University in Scotland. The recipients of this year's scholarships are Oliver Rouhana, Jr., Berlyn A. Sanusie, Fred Koilor, Tobias Wesseh, Elvis K. Crusoe and Marcus Brown Zarway.
The beneficiaries are the first batch of 16 students recently awarded overseas scholarships by NOCAL. The remaining 10 students are scheduled to depart in January next year to commence their studies in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
The students will pursue master degrees in petroleum data management, international oil and gas communication, petroleum economics and petroleum economics and policy.
Speaking at a brief ceremony shortly before departure, the students expressed appreciation to the management of NOCAL for the offer. They promised to maximize the opportunity provided them by the company in its efforts to improve the manpower needs of the institution and the country's emerging petroleum sector.
The scholarships being offered by NOCAL will underwrite the completion of a two-year graduate degree programme which include the provision of tuition, books, accommodation, meals, health care insurance and monthly living allowance. Each student is given the tools, resources and grounding for personal success in their programmes.
Since the inception of the programme, NOCAL has sponsored dozens of young Liberians to pursue graduate studies in geology, petroleum engineering, drilling engineering, petroleum finance, petroleum law, oil and gas management and other areas relevant to the sector and the economy.
Several Liberians have already completed their studies at top notch universities in America and Europe under NOCAL's manpower development initiative, and have since returned home and are making immense contribution to the national rebuilding and renewal efforts of Liberia.
One of the core objectives of NOCAL is manpower development with the overarching aim to implement its scholarship scheme for young Liberians by ensuring the delivery of a merit-based, equal opportunity initiative that would build a legacy of education and transparency in Liberia's emerging oil and gas sector. The scholarship programme of NOCAL is essentially directed in disciplines critical to the development and growth of Liberia's emerging oil and gas sector.
