ALPHAS HOST LEADERSHIP & CAREER PLANNING WORKSHOP FOR UNIVERSITY SCHOLARS & SPECIAL INVITEES
September 7, 2017. MONROVIA, The Men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity hosted a Leadership and Career Planning Workshop through the Alpha Leadership Academy on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Hotel Provident. The participants were students from Cuttington University, Stella Maris Polytechnic University, A.M.E. Zion University, A.M.E. University, STARZ Technical University, United Methodist University and SDA University. This all day workshop was facilitated by all professional members of Alpha Phi Alpha.
The workshop topics included, “Making a first impression”, “Managing Time”, Attributes of a Results Driven Leader”, “The Employment Process”, “Career Planning and Development” and “The Professional Experience”.
According to the Dean of the Alpha Leadership Academy, Samuel M. Lynch, the leadership and career development program was designed to equip young scholars with the necessary leadership skills and knowledge that would enable them to performance and compete at a higher level than their peers in the real world. “We are committed to investing in our scholars as we prepare them for future leadership.”
In the final session each of the Alpha Men spoke about successes and challenges in their professions while the Alpha Scholars had the opportunity to engage the brothers asking questions and providing comments.
On behalf of the Scholars, Archie Philips thanked the Alphas for this very educational and informative workshop. He proposed that the Fraternity continue to engage the scholars in their educational and professional journey.
As part of its ongoing support to My Brother’s Keeper Orphanage in Careysburg, the Men of Alpha Phi Alpha on Sunday, August 20, 2017, presented a 5.5 KVA generator, and 300 gallons of fuel, 10 bundles of Zinc, 10 Bags of rice, one cartoon of sardine, one cartoon of luncheon meat and one box of tomatoes. Others are one cartoon of laundry soap, one cartoon of bath soap, with one cartoon of assorted medical supplies. One Thousand USD ($1,000.00) was also presented to Pastor Ralph to pay teachers’ salaries for two months.
You may recall, on August 17, 2017, the Fraternity paid a visit to the Group of 77, a facility for citizens with disabilities. The Alphas donated cash for food stuffs, a wheelchair, 30 sets of crutches, 10 gas masks and 2 walkers. “MANLY DEED, SCHOLARSHIP & LOVE FOR ALL MANKIND”
